I've been very happy with my ATI. It's getting old now, but still holds up to most programs pretty well. I'm sure the 9700 is amazing.

I have used both Nvidia and ATI cards and right now i would say to go for the 9700. People that are saying to wait for the nv30 chip are the same ones who will be saying to wait till next summer for the Radeon 10500 card in a few months while they still sit at home with an old GF2 or GF3 card. If you want the fastest going its not going to be the fastest for long. Id just like to point out that the 9700 is also over 60% faster than a GF4 4600 at stock speeds and almost double if overclocked.
