What are your beliefs?

If your atheist what did your parents raise you as?

Catholic. I used to pray every night and go to church every Sunday. But then I realized that God really wasn't answering my prayers. That was when I was about nine. Some years later I came across Darwin and the Theory of Evolution which seemed to make a lot more sense.

My folks don't know that I'm an atheist though. Seeing as how all of my family has religious beliefs, I'd be an idiot to tell them. I could expect them to relentlessly question me, try to make me change my mind, and possibly give me a bible to memorize. But man, it pains me like a real bitch whenever a family member dies or something similar because everybody around me is praying with tears coming out of their eyes while I just stand there and pretend.

The pretending part must really suck. So you're an atheist that hasn't come out of the closet yet. to your family at least.

Yeah, the only person in my family who knows about it is my brother, and that was really fucking bad move on my part since he's the type of guy who would snitch on you to get revenge.

My friends all know, but they all know better than to bring it up because the first time they visit my house they see the cross on the wall, look back at me, and then nod their head in understanding.

It must be rather uncomfortable for you, considering you live in a home that's abundant with elements that contradict your beliefs. That kinda explains your avatar text. jk. :)

I suppose I'm pretty lucky not to have any of my parents force their beliefs on me. I've had the chance to delve into many beliefs, and I still am.

ok here goes... i was raised an anglican, but kicked it when i was young. i still went to church every once in a while but that was purely because i know how much my mum liked it. all my family are aethiests now.

i'm a humanitarian. that's my major thing. i believe in equality, abortion, euthanasia, freedom etc. i disagree with wars, guns, the death penalty, racism kills me, country's medling in other country's affairs etc. i plan to donate at least a year of my time to a third world country at some stage.

i think multiculture is the spice of life, and australia for one has benefitted greatly. i listen to people, i love thinking and having clever arguments. on the whole i think religion is a way of brainwashing. if you're brought up a certain way, you don't question it.

darwin rocks my world. i can't kill any animals except mosquitos or fish i catch without feeling incredibly guilty. in saying this i do eat meat.

i can't walk past the same begger twice without giving them money. i believe in sex whenever. i believe you have the right to choose whichever path you want to follow. i believe it's cool to be gay. i believe that education is the answer to a hell of a lot of people's problems. knowledge is power but power is not always good. i despise arrogance and every form of elevating yourself above the crowd.

i beleive in honesty, but i also believe in white lies. i follow the 'what goes around comes around policy'. i trust people. i believe that friends are priceless. i believe that the g7 should rub out the 3rd world's debt. i'm not a fan of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.

i believe in passing on the land to the next generation in the same state if not better than when we got it. i despise selfishness, greed, the indifference of good men (;0). i can't stand hypocrites.

i believe in chances. everyone makes mistakes. i don't however believe in infinite chances. i believe that black africans (not SA's) are the coolest people on the earth. i believe in calling in favours. i beleive in recycling, reducing, and reusing.

i believe highly in opinions and minds. i believe in helping anyone in need. i believe you can do whatever you want as long as it doesn't cross my path / effect me. i don't beleive in violence. i believe that violence never solves anything, although on the surface it can look like it does. i believe that everyone has a right to safety and security.

i believe in treating people the same as you'd like to be treated. i believe in humour in every of it's guises. i believe people in power should be there not because they had the most money to prop-up their election campaigns, but because they genuinely are great people that can make a change.

i believe in a hell of a lot of things, way too many to list here. that's just a incredibly small insight into my beliefs! if people want me to clarify anything, ask my opinion on a certain subject etc fire-away!

I was raised Catholic. I attended church every sunday until I was about 15. Honostly, where I am now, I'm still undecided on my beliefs. If I'll ever be able to declare myself something, I don't know. I don't believe any one religion/non-religion has the answer to everything.

I'm certinly not going to declare myself Atheist, like so many people do. I think that's more of a person who doesn't want to find the answers. The type of person who would rather wonder why their coffee is cold, than wonder how the world can possibly be so complex yet still work in unison.

The things that keep me believing in a high power are the questions we will never know the answer to. Things like; Why are we here? Who or what created our existance and universe. What if this is all a dream? What if it's not even our dream. Maybe this is some sort of illusion. Nothing could be as it seems.

When you think about the universe we live, there's just so much to it. I certinly don't think we can rely on scientists to give us all the answers to the universe. We as humans were just put on this earth and now theres people who actually think they can figure out the answer to everything? Scientists know fuckall about life, and that's something I'll always stand behind.

In the past people knew bad weather and bad fortune were things from the gods. In the past people knew the earth was flat. Just think how much we must know today, and what it will mean years from now.

So when it comes to beliefs, I suppose most people just look at the basic issues which have been argued over for years. Me, I look at the bigger picture. And maybe that's why I can never give a definite answer as to what I believe.
