Well, it did exist, but it's not used the way it is today. You proably knew that though, so I'm just wasting space.
On a side-note, my mind just went *click* when you said ARPANET, because I once copied & pasted an entire document on the Internet for a school essay. Got a 6, if I remember correctly.
