It is early in the year and you're not applying for college yet probably, but I'd thought I'd bring a college opportunity to your attention.
Okay, everyone knows by now I go to a college in a predominantly black neighborhood with a student population of mostly immigrants. But there is more to it.
I'm in this fairly new program called the "CUNY Honors College." CUNY is the City University of New York, and controls a shitload of colleges around the city. Seven of these colleges participate in the Honors College.
The basic concept is, your tuition and book money is completely paid for by the program if you maintain a 3.5 GPA. You get other perks like a free Apple laptop and an academic expense account. In addition, if you select the Hunter College campus, they pay for your dorm room as well. I figure this would be the only real option for any of you since none of you live around here. Hunter College is located in a rather nice neighborhood in Manhattan. It is all free. You just need to cover living expenses.
Of course, this would only work if Hunter College offers what you are looking for in terms of classes. Also, it's certainly not a big name college.

It doesn't hurt to apply.

As somebody who is applying for colleges pretty soon, this definitely sounds interesting to me. Thanks for the heads up.

I can't understand how you americans pay for school. My course + residence fees are about $13,000 per year, and I am in mad debt by about $9,000 until I get a summer job and hopefully pay off some of it.
God, $50,000 DAM!N

The state of Florida offers what's called a "Bright Futures Scholarship". Where you can get 75% or 100% of your tuition paid at any Florida school depending on your test scores, grades, and volunteer hours. Most other states don't have this.
I'm looking to go out of state and the only way I'll be able to is if I get nearly all of it paid for in scholarship money.

I would love to live in NYC for free. Unfortunatly, I am not a poor minority high schooler. Even years ago when I was in high school I got terrible grades. I have no interest in going back to college, but free housing is free housing.
If you can get me in despite those few small shortcomings that would be sweet.

Well, the offer sounds nice and all. But there's absolutely no way in Hell that I'm going to maintain a GPA of 3.5. So I'm pretty sure I can throw out this option.
Shit.
