This post is to hopefully answer some of the questions you might have about the hosting.

For those of you unaware of this, the signup link is located here:

http://www.semicolon-zero.com/hosting/

Anyone can still signup if you haven't yet.

For those of you too lazy to read the rules, they state as follows:

::Hosting is open to semicolon-zero members

::You will get your own directory (semicolon-zero.com/members/yourname)

::Illegal/Adult content is NOT allowed

::All hosting is ad-free made possible by mr_lee :)

::Please don't abuse this service

Now for some FAQ's.

Why do I have all these .tmp files?

Files with the extension .tmp are created when the file type you are attempting to upload is invalid.

You'll get a message that looks like this when you try to do so:

Warning: filename 'sig.cgi' is invalid - extension 'cgi' is not allowed because it is listed at "Admin Page" => "Manage System Settings" => "CGI Types" and your account does not have the "Allow CGI" privilege [Help].

Status: this file will be saved as 'fd_webformex_1037073949.tmp' instead.

Success: file 'fd_webformex_1037073949.tmp' has been uploaded in ascii/text mode - size 326 bytes.

(This means you're uploading an invalid file type)

Honostly, I don't see what people are tying to upload which is giving them these errors. Normal graphic files and webpage files all work fine. If there is something you upload often which for some reason is not allowed, let me know and I'll see if I can add the extension. If you really need to upload a file type which is not allowed (and can't wait to talk to me), change the extension before uploading, and tell people they will need to change the extension back after downloading.

The following types of files are allowed: jpg gif wav mid midi au ra mp3 css js txt html htm zip tar hqx null tmp template is_user_dir swf.

I suggest you obtain a copy of photoshop if you don't have one. Even if you don't plan on doing any heavy image editing it is a very powerful and helpful tool for image conversion.

Can I get more space?

Accounts are set by default to 10mb because A) We don't want anyone hosting a 500mb metallica.rape.xx.jpg.vbs file. B) Truth be told, no one knows how much space is on the server.

If you do need more space, please drop me a line on IRC, or send me a PM via the forums and I will see what I can do. Please no email, I probably will not see it due to the huge amount of spam I get.

Why is there no cgi access?

The way the server is setup, all cgi files can only be run within the cgi-bin, which unfortunatly can't be linked through the same accounts. If you would like a script hosted, I may be able to help you out. Just let me know.

If you have an other questions regarding the hosting, feel free to ask.

Hmm on the one hand this sounds great on the other I'm not sure if I come here enough to feel justified in taking advantage of it.

This is great, thanks alot to all that made it possible. Currently i've got a 20mb host so i'm okay, so I won't sign up yet. what good is it for me to take up server space if I don't really need it yet. :)

Another thing, if you don't want your directory to be open for everyone to view, you'll need to put an index.html file in your main directory.

This is what an "open" directory looks like:

http://www.semicolon-zero.com/members/test/

This is somone using a index.html file (blocks access):

http://www.semicolon-zero.com/members/Stealth_Shot/

The easiest way to do this is just to open up notepad, type whatever message you want, and save as index.html.

Also, regarding passwords. All passwords are generated by the script and sent to your email. Because your password is encrypted, I can't look it up for you. I can however reset if for you if you happen to lose. I suggest changing your password after the first time you login, you can do this by going to the "My Account" section.
