I just got accepted into the international baccaleaureate programme :pimp:  :spin: (it's not college, what's it called in america when you're 16?)

For the people not familiar with US educational system:


 


You are supposed to be enrolled when you are five years old...


 


5 year old enters:


Kindergarden, 1st - 5th Grade (Grade School)


 


11 year old enters:


6th - 8th Grade (Junior High School)


 


14 year old enters:


9th - 12th Grade (High School) -> Also refered to Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years, in order.


 


(I think this applies to all of the US, although it could be different depending on state, also there will be people who skipped a grade or were left back)


 


That is all that is "required" by the government.  It is common for people planning to go to college to go right after high school.  In Senior year of high school, the students send out applications to colleges they want to go to and they are either accepted, rejected or put on a waitlist.

o, I'll explain the swedish system while we're at it them (:


 


 


6 years old


pre-school (can be referred to as playscool och 0th (lol) grade)


 


7 - 12 years old


1st- 6th grade (low and middle phase - wtf didn't translate wery well)


 


13 -15 years old


7th - 9th grade ("high-pase" roughly translated, this is where we start getting grades)

16 - 19 years old


1st - 3rd grade - you'll get different education programs to choose from: natural sciences, aestate, society sciences, construction, industrial, vechile. depending on how many who wants in to a program and how difficult it is. You got to have a certain grade score which is calculated from the grades u get in 9th grade. plus you must have passed the math, english and swedish classes.


 


20 - 200000 years old

some schools in my area have 1-6 in elementary and 7-8 in middle school
