I just bought a new heatsink, a Thermaltake Volcano 7. Blue aluminum, has a copper plug. So today I installed it. The sink, came with a little black square of stuff on the bottom, I thought this was that thermal crap that is bad, so I scraped it off with a razor, and put some arctic 3 on there, rubbed it around with a gloved hand. Then I put a few dots of the stuff on the cpu core, and ran the razor over it, to smooth it out.
So I go to put the sink on, and I can't put the clip on the middle ledge thing. So I put it on the one nearest my northern chipset. It goes on pretty smoothly, and I bring it back upstairs. Plug it in, la de da, go into bios, to check the temp, and it is skyrocketing. With my old cooler, it was at 51C to 53C depending, and up to 55C on load and stuff. This was going to that in the bios, and going up to 60C before I shut it off immediately. Then I let it go past the bios for a few seconds, and it said 'boot disc failure, insert system disc'... ? ? ? ? ? ?
What the hell is going on. (I'm on my mom's computer)
