There's plenty of good bands/musicians around. Just look for them. Steve Vai pwns on the guitar, he's alive and kicking. and Layne Stanley, Cobain, and Nowell weren't that good of musicians, just good songwriters/singers. Not that I'm trashing them :)

I know you're not trashing them, just trying to get a music-oriented discussion going. :)

I listen to alot of different types of music so I know what you mean.

It just sucks for bands having to break up just coz a key member in the band messed up. sublime for example.

ok like its getting old news, but musically nightwish is doing the best in my opinion, they outclass almost everything thats out there......

well they are fairly hard to place, its more like melodic opera power fantasy metal/gothic...

their songs have extremely high energy levels, the music just radiates power and energy.

Vocals are extremly beautifull and melodic, backed up by good guitars and killer drums....

i can only say, download some stuff and listen yourself

songs i personally like are

Wishmaster

Crownless

Wanderlust

The Kinslayer

Devil and the deep dark ocean

Sacrament of Wilderness

The Riddler

Elvenpath

Come cover me

Sleepwalker

Sleeping Sun

some of these songs i can listen to like 3 times in a row and still be astounded by the sheer musical beauty the third time...
