Note: This thread is here to share your stories from September 11th. Any attempts at being funny or fucking around in this thread will be deleted. With that said I give you my story:
I woke up around 11am on September 11th. It was a bright, sunny, very beautiful day. I was home by myself, everyone else had gone out for the day. The day before I had gone in for a job interview and was told I'd get a call the next day. I never got the call.
I turned on the TV and the weather channel was on (the only channel my father ever watches). So I thought I'd wait for the local forecast while I eat my cereal. It was the regular national forecast, same thing as always. Then the weather person mentioned something about all flights being grounded due to the emergency. I didn't think too highly of it, but I switched to MSNBC to see if they'd have anything on this "emergency". The reception was shitty and I still had no real idea what they were talking about. At that time I switched the channel to CBS.
"What the fuck"
Every channel on TV was locked on New York. I couldn't believe my eyes. It's just hard to accept things like that at first. I had goose bumps as I watched tapes of planes flying into the WTC, the buildings collapsing, people running for their lives. Everything seemed so surreal. It was hard to believe such complete destruction was happening on such a beautiful day.
I live right next to Otis Air Force Base. The same base where fighter jets were dispatched from after the initial call of a hijacked plane. My father came home a little while later. He was attending his best friends funeral. :( It was being held at a cemetery on Otis. Everyone was forced to leave early as they evacuated the base. All throughout the day I heard loud rumbles as planes went overhead. I continued to watch TV for the remainder of the day. I had no internet access for the month of September due to recently moving, so I missed all of what went on in the internet scene.
